At Skylift Crane Services, it’s not just about powerful machines — it’s about the skilled people behind them.
Let’s shine the spotlight on Matty, one of our dedicated team members helping keep projects moving safely and efficiently across Melbourne.
From First Lift to Today
With 14 years in the crane industry, Matty brings valuable experience and a steady hand to every project.
A typical day on-site involves lots of planning, setting up, lifting safely and constantly reassessing risks – from planning and preparation through to execution and pack down.

More Than Meets the Eye
Most people see a crane and think it’s all about lifting, but Matty explains there’s much more to it:
“What most people don’t realise about crane work is just how dangerous it can be.”
“From calculations and planning to communication and coordination, every lift requires precision at every step. Safety is a major factor in daily tasks, allowing others and myself to return home from work every day.”
A Project to Remember
One standout moment in Matty’s career at Skylift has been the MCM South Bank project.
These are the kinds of projects that showcase not just technical skill, but the ability to problem-solve and deliver under pressure.
The Skylift Team Culture
We asked Matty to describe the Skylift team in three words, and the answer is: Professional, Family Orientated, Eager
And when it comes to what sets Skylift apart:
“We have a Boss that’s willing to give everyone a go.”
It’s this combination of professionalism, teamwork, and pride in the job that keeps clients coming back.
Matty’s Advice for the Next Generation
For anyone considering a career in the crane industry, Matty offers this advice:
“Never be afraid to ask questions. There’s no “I” in Team – everyone has a part in the job running smoothly.
It’s a role that rewards focus, responsibility, and a strong commitment to doing the job right.”
Matty’s Not So Hidden Talent
In a shock to no-one at all (!), when we asked Matty, “What’s your hidden talent?” he answered with:
“I’m the hardest worker on and off the job!”
Bold words indeed, to finish off our little interview. Thanks Matty!
